On July 22, 2020, the movements “Shame,” “Change,” “Dare,” and the organization “For a Democratic Future” held a protest at the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the slogan “Don’t kill me! Investigate the crime!” They demanded objective investigation of the recent deaths of young people. On the same day the protest was held, 23-year-old programmer Tamar Bachaliashvili was found dead in the forest near Tetritskaro, in the backseat of her own car, after a five-day search. At the same time, the investigation into the murder of 19-year-old football player Giorgi Shakarashvili was underway. Seventeen individuals were arrested in connection with the Shakarashvili case, and various people involved in the case were being questioned. Part of the public feared that the authorities were not properly investigating the two cases and were protecting the perpetrators.

The protest at the Ministry of Internal Affairs responded to these two deaths. “I might be next”; “Protect life” — these were the messages written on the banners held by the protesters demanding a fair investigation. Participants attempted to block the road and attached red-painted gloves to the ministry fence, but police prevented them from doing so. Three participants — Zviad Kuprava, Lasha Tsutskiridze, and Oto Shengelia — were detained at the protest. They were later released after signing written statements.
