On May 12, 2010, lawyers began a sit-in protest in front of the Parliament building, demanding that the Election Code be amended through an expedited procedure. The draft amendments prepared by the lawyers and submitted to Parliament proposed raising the election threshold to 50% for local self-government elections, forming election commissions on a parity basis, and improving the voter lists. The appeal to Parliament was signed by about 500 lawyers. They argued that the existing law “declared the government the winner in advance,” while their proposed amendments would make election fraud impossible. The lawyers continued their continuous protest for several days.

On May 15, the patrol police prevented the protesting lawyers from setting up tents in front of Parliament. The officers confiscated the tents the participants had brought. Following this, the lawyers decided to continue the protests on a daily basis for several hours instead of maintaining a continuous presence. However, there are no further records of subsequent protests.
